A New Direction for Existing Ink

Custom Cover-Up Tattoos

A successful tattoo cover-up starts with an honest assessment of the existing piece. Its size, darkness, colour, location and age all affect what can be designed over it. At Raro Tattoo, the consultation is used to understand what you want to change and which creative options may work for your skin and current tattoo.

How the Cover-Up Process Works

1. Share the Existing Tattoo

Send a clear, current photo taken in natural light and include the approximate measurements and location.

2. Discuss the New Direction

Bring reference images and describe the themes or styles you would be happy to wear long term.

3. Plan the Design

The new piece may need to be larger or use particular shapes, shading and colour to work with the tattoo underneath.

Can Every Tattoo Be Covered?

Not every tattoo can be fully covered in one session, and a cover-up cannot simply erase what is underneath. The existing ink influences the scale and design of the new piece. A consultation is the best way to determine whether a direct cover-up, rework or another approach is realistic.
